Worldskills 2016 gold medal winnner Gaby Ware.

It isn’t every day that one can call themselves a gold medalist, but that is exactly the case for VERTO hairdressing apprentice Gaby Ware.

Employed at Milan Hair Salon in Port Macquarie, Gaby recently competed in Worldskills in Port Macquarie, a three day, 18 hour competition, which saw 40 000 spectators come through the doors. Gaby was required to complete an amazing 12 different styles, to take out the gold medal.

Gaby follows in the footsteps of another VERTO apprentice Gemma Edwards, who also won a gold medal at Worldskills, in 2014. Following her win, Gaby was accepted into the Skillsquad of 24 members, and has commenced training toward the Global Games which are to be held in mid-2017. Following these games will be the announcement as to who is successful in becoming a Skillaroo and represent Australia in October 2017 at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, at the International Worldskills Competition.

Competing at Worldskills with Gaby, and taking home a silver medal for her efforts, was 18 year old Isabella DiMattia, who has recently completed the HSC at South Grafton High school. Rather than complete more conventional subjects in Years 11 and 12, Isabella signed up with VERTO as a School Based Apprentice, combining her high school studies with an apprenticeship at her mother’s business, DiMattia Hairdressing in Grafton.

VERTO is proud to have assisted Gaby and Isabella throughout their journey to becoming medal winners!
