Not-for-profit training and employment services provider VERTO has today announced a $1500 donation to the School of Hard Knocks Port Macquarie Hastings to assist the Absolutely Everybody Choir.

Established in 2015, the School of Hard Knocks Port Macquarie Hastings is the first regional branch of the movement, which seeks to reconnect community members who have experienced disadvantage through creative arts. Performing at events throughout the year, the choir meets weekly to practice, share a meal and build connections.

A volunteer-led initiative, VERTO’s donation will help cover the costs associated with the program, from production and administrative expenses to travel and uniforms.

“The choir plays an important role in the lives of our members, who have experienced a range of challenges, from homelessness to disability. It gives them a chance to form friendships, share experiences, get creative and build confidence in all areas of their lives,” choir coordinator Annie Williams said.

“Our volunteers work tirelessly to ensure we can continue offering the program, but we need support, and donations like VERTO’s help us keep the program running.”

VERTO CEO Ron Maxwell said he is proud to support such a worthwhile initiative.

“Our mission at VERTO is to positively transform the lives of individuals and the communities we operate in. Supporting the choir is a great way to give back to the Port Macquarie community and play a small role in changing people’s lives for the better.

“I encourage the local community and businesses to get behind School of Hard Knocks, whether through a donation, volunteering or attending performances.”

The School of Hard Knocks Port Macquarie meets weekly at the Conservatorium of Music in Hollingworth Street. To follow the choir’s progress and find out how you can get involved, visit https://www.facebook.com/SOHK.PMH.
