At VERTO, we see the life-changing impacts of employment daily, from financial security to confidence and wellbeing. And it’s great to see the Australian Government recognising this too, with the new Workforce Australia services initiative that will make it easier for more Australians to find and secure employment.

Workforce Australia will replace the existing jobactive and brings together several programs, including Transition to Work (TtW), New Employment Service Model (NESM) and Self-Assessment Assistance (SEA), to create a single front door for government employment services.

VERTO has been selected to deliver Workforce Australia services across various regions in NSW, including Central West, Hunter North Coast, Far West Orana and Murray Riverina. Our team is excited to play a role in the initiative, and we are looking forward to seeing the host of benefits it will bring to job seekers, employers and local communities.

So today, I want to talk about how Workforce Australia will deliver better employment outcomes.

Building a robust and competitive workforce

It’s no secret that Australia has work to do when it comes to our workforce, with skill shortages and mismatched skills a problem for many industries. Workforce Australia is designed to provide a gateway for Australia to build these skills, upskilling and reskilling workers to build a productive and competitive workforce for our future.

The initiative will equip Australians with the skills, training and resources needed to gain sustainable and satisfying employment and, in doing so, provide businesses and industries with the skills they need to thrive.

Empowering job seekers

Workforce Australia will also simplify the process for job seekers, creating a single point of entry for a range of training and employment services. Using a new points-based activation system, job seekers can manage their mutual obligations with more flexibility and control.

This approach will help cut some of the red tape, and with all services accessible online, job seekers can access services anytime. A self-service, digital model will give job seekers more control and clarity over their pathway and the options available to them, and this is empowering. And, for those who need additional support, local providers like VERTO will be on hand to provide tailored services.

Employment should be accessible to all. Simplifying entry points and providing visibility through online access alongside in-person support when needed is a big step in the right direction.

Streamlining recruitment and workforce planning for businesses

This new model will also help employers find and secure candidates with the right qualifications and skills, through a more connected recruitment service. Employers will have better access to matching, shortlisting and dynamic servicing to find the right candidates. In addition, they can work with providers like VERTO to access tailored services, including post-placement support and financial incentives.

Under the initiative, expert Workforce Specialists will work closely with employers and industry to develop practical solutions to industry-wide and local labour market challenges. And that’s something that’s really critical. Government, employment service providers and industry must work hand-in-hand to develop solutions to Australia’s workforce challenges today and into the future.

VERTO is incredibly excited to be a part of this initiative. I know I speak for our entire team when I say we can’t wait to start delivering these services to local job seekers, businesses and communities when they commence on 1 July.
