How Workforce Australia is delivering for us all

Australia's thriving economy owes much of its success to a capable and hard-working workforce, but inequalities in access to employment remain. And the landscape can be challenging for both jobseekers and employers.

Just over two years ago, the Australian Government introduced Workforce Australia to bridge the gap between jobseekers and employers – and deliver results for both parties. As we dive into the third year of the program, I find myself reflecting on the journey so far. So today, I want to discuss how the program is delivering for jobseekers, employers and the community more broadly.

Employment is life-changing

Employment is a game changer – it reshapes lives, supports local communities and strengthens the entire country. On a personal level, landing a job does more than just put money in someone's pocket. It offers a sense of purpose and boosts confidence, enabling individuals to make life-changing decisions, from pursuing further education to securing stable housing. It's not just about financial freedom; it's about feeling valued and having a meaningful role in society.

This positive change doesn't stop with the individual. It spreads throughout local communities and across the nation. Locally, more jobs mean more people with money to spend, which helps local businesses thrive and spurs community development. This creates a healthy economic cycle, attracting more investment and job opportunities. On a national scale, high employment drives economic growth, reduces dependence on welfare and helps fund public services like education and healthcare. It also brings people together, reducing economic gaps and building a stronger, more cohesive community.

Supporting jobseekers

Workforce Australia has targeted the job search challenges by providing comprehensive support to jobseekers. From personalised assistance to advanced job-matching technologies, the program has equipped individuals with the necessary tools to find their footing in a competitive job market.

Since the program was introduced in July 2022, VERTO has assisted 21,661 Australians in developing various job-ready skills. Services include career mentoring, job search strategies, resume writing and interview techniques – all designed to not only build skills but boost confidence. Additionally, the program can provide access to essential local services and financial support for necessary items such as uniforms or equipment.

New talent pipelines for employers

Workforce Australia isn't just about supporting job-seekers; it's equally invested in the success of Australian businesses. Employers nationwide have benefitted from access to a pool of job-ready candidates.

The initiative has simplified recruitment by providing expert insights into effective hiring strategies to secure the right talent, financial incentives to hire new employees, facilitating growth and investment in human capital, and innovative software and services that align employer needs with jobseeker abilities, ensuring an apt fit for vacancies.

Workforce Australia has delivered tangible benefits by streamlining the path to employment for jobseekers and simplifying recruitment for employers. It's a win-win for all involved, contributing to a resilient and adaptive economy. As job markets evolve, Workforce Australia's role will undoubtedly expand, continuing to play a vital role in Australia’s employment infrastructure.

VERTO is proud to deliver Workforce Australia services in more than 40 locations in the Hunter, North Coast, Central West and Far West Orana employment regions, where we give individuals the knowledge and tools they need to get a job, learn new skills or access extra support if they need it.
