Coonamble Shire Council Named Finalist in National Employment Award

Congratulations to Coonamble Shire Council on being named a finalist in the Champion Employer of the Year category at the 2026 National Employment Services Association (NESA) Awards for Excellence.

This national award recognises employers who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to creating inclusive employment opportunities for people facing barriers to work.

As one of the region's leading employers, Coonamble Shire Council has worked in close partnership with VERTO and local organisations to create meaningful pathways into employment. Over the past 18 months, the Council has supported participants into sustainable jobs, achieved strong employment retention outcomes and championed First Nations employment through initiatives such as the Wake Up Shake Up program, delivered in partnership with Nguumambiny Indigenous Corporation.

VERTO Chief Executive Officer Ron Maxwell said the recognition was a testament to the Council's commitment to creating opportunities and strengthening its community.

"Coonamble Shire Council has demonstrated what can be achieved when local government, community organisations and employers work together to address employment challenges. Their commitment to supporting people into work, particularly First Nations jobseekers and those facing barriers to employment, has created lasting benefits for individuals, families and the broader community. We are proud to have nominated the Council and congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition."

The Council's commitment extends well beyond recruitment. By investing in culturally responsive pre-employment programs, mentoring, training and ongoing workforce support, Coonamble Shire Council is helping people build confidence, develop skills and create long-term career opportunities while strengthening the local community.

VERTO looks forward to celebrating alongside the Coonamble Shire Council team at the 2026 NESA Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner in Brisbane on 25 August 2026.

Congratulations to Coonamble Shire Council on this outstanding achievement, and best of luck at the national awards.
