Living on the Mid North Coast of NSW, Kirsty has turned her lifelong love of farming and storytelling into a creative business that’s inspiring children everywhere.
Growing up surrounded by tractors, cattle, and the wide-open countryside, Kirsty’s childhood was filled with outdoor adventures, riding motorbikes, camping by the river, and caring for animals. But it wasn’t until years later, after working in childcare and running her own videography business, that she realised she could bring those same experiences to children everywhere through her creative venture, On Aunty’s Farm.
“I’ve always loved entertaining and teaching kids,” Kirsty said. “My nieces and nephews were the inspiration. I wanted to share the fun and learning that comes with country life, especially for children who might not get to experience it firsthand.”
What began as a passion project in late 2024, with a few light-hearted videos filmed on her family’s farm, quickly began to gain traction. Families, teachers, and even farmers started reaching out to tell her how much their children loved watching the animals, tractors, and farm adventures she captured. That encouragement sparked a bigger idea: turning On Aunty’s Farm into a real business.
“I had the energy and ideas, but I didn’t know how to turn it into something sustainable,” Kirsty admitted. “That’s when I heard about VERTO’s Self-Employment Assistance program and thought it might be exactly what I needed.”
After attending an Exploring Self-Employment workshop in early 2025, Kirsty connected with VERTO Self-Employment Facilitator Margo Muir, who became a trusted coach and sounding board. Together, they transformed On Aunty’s Farm from a creative hobby into a structured business. Through one-on-one coaching, Kirsty learned how to write a business plan, understand her finances, market her content, and plan for future growth.
“Margo helped me navigate things I didn’t have much knowledge about,” Kirsty said. “She gave me the confidence to see myself not just as a creator, but as a business owner with a vision.”
Today, Aunty’s Farm is a growing children’s YouTube series that blends education and entertainment, taking kids on virtual farm adventures that teach them about animals, nature, and Aussie country living. Each episode is filled with songs, stories, and the charm of rural life, making learning fun, safe, and engaging.
Since launching, the channel has grown to more than 22,000 subscribers, reaching families not just in Australia, but across the globe. Alongside the videos, Kirsty has also created children’s picture books and free printable activities for families and educators, helping them bring a bit of the farm into their homes and classrooms.
“It felt important to give families something off-screen that still captured the same sense of joy and curiosity,” she said.
The most rewarding part, Kirsty says, is seeing how her work connects with children.
“One parent sent me a video of their kids dancing to my songs and saying, ‘Aunty says to bee kind.’ It’s such a beautiful feeling knowing I’m making a difference in their day, and that the message is sticking with them.”
Looking ahead, Kirsty hopes to expand Aunty’s Farm with more books, live events, and collaborations with schools and libraries.
“I want to keep building a community of families, educators, and farmers who share a love for fun, learning, and Aussie life.”
