Multiple wins for VERTO and local businesses at MidCoast Business Awards

Success was shared across the stage at the 2026 MidCoast Business Awards, with VERTO's Self-Employment Assistance (SEA) program and several local businesses it has supported recognised among the region's best.

Held in Forster on 3 August, the awards celebrate businesses, leaders and organisations making a positive contribution to the local economy and community through innovation, leadership and business success.

VERTO was named Winner of the Best Education and Training Award for its Self-Employment Assistance program. The organisation was also recognised as a finalist in the Outstanding Community Organisation and Business Recognition Award categories.

The evening also highlighted the success of businesses supported through VERTO's SEA program.

Talking Point Timber was awarded Best Sustainability Business, while Creative Shell received the People's Choice Product Award and was named a finalist in the Best Professional Services and Best Innovation categories. Shelley Kurtz was also recognised as a finalist in the Outstanding Young Business Leader category.

VERTO Chief Executive Officer Ron Maxwell said it was pleasing to see local businesses recognised for their contribution to the Mid Coast region.

"Congratulations to all the winners and finalists, particularly those supported through our Self-Employment Assistance program. It's great to see local businesses recognised for the contribution they make to their communities and local economies."

A special acknowledgement goes to Kahrina Richardson, who played an important role in this success by preparing VERTO's award submissions and supporting participants throughout the awards process, helping local business owners gain valuable recognition.

Adding to the significance of the evening, Talking Point Timber also crafted the timber trophies presented to winners. Made from locally sourced timber salvaged following the bushfires, each handcrafted trophy symbolised resilience, sustainability and the strength of the Mid Coast community.

The results highlight the growing impact of local entrepreneurship and demonstrate how the Self-Employment Assistance program is helping people build successful businesses that create jobs, strengthen communities and contribute to the region's economy.
