In 2024, Brian Meyers, a lifelong labourer from Orange, NSW, turned his dream of starting a business into reality with the support from VERTO’s Workforce Australia program.
With years of hands-on experience and a strong work ethic, Brian always aspired to be his own boss but didn’t believe he had the ability or resources to make it happen.
Brian’s Workforce Australia Case Manager connected him to APM’s Self-Employment Assistance program, where he sat down with Deanne Wade and the fantastic team to discuss his business idea, ‘Ole Skool Mowing & Gardening’. They determined that his idea was viable and helped him develop a solid business plan.
VERTO further supported Brian by funding crucial aspects such as the NDIS worker clearance, business insurance, and personalised work clothing to help ensure his business presented professionally.
"When I first started with VERTO, I never imagined that I would end up running my own business. My case manager suggested it, and although I had always wanted to start my own maintenance company, I had so many reasons why I thought I couldn’t, every doubt I had, she had a solution for,” Brian said.
Brian recently visited the VERTO Orange office, beaming with pride as he shared the news of completing his first quote. The next day, he returned with even better news—his first job was successfully completed under his new business name! His business is now thriving, with Brian gaining a loyal following of regular clients.
“Every aspect has been taken care of and supported. All I have to do is go to work and do the jobs—everything else has been made so easy."
