Training for your future: filling the jobs in regional NSW, was produced by the Regional Australia Institute (RAI) in collaboration with VERTO.
The report looks at both the challenges and opportunities for the future of work and training in regional NSW,
By analysing the latest job vacancy data, as well as a surveying 400 client businesses, we found that regional labour markets are experiencing record-breaking demand for staff, with job vacancies over the last 12 months higher than that experienced during the mining boom.
The research highlights the overwhelming demand for technicians and tradespeople, machinery operators and labourers, hospitality workers and retail workers in regional NSW.
Our survey to 400 businesses revealed that there were 1,096 job vacancies across regional NSW, with an average of 3.5 vacancies per business surveyed.
More than 30 per cent of these vacancies are for new roles indicating an expanding job market in regional NSW.
As well as labour market gaps, the research highlights the recruitment challenges faced for businesses in regional NSW. Around 70 per cent of businesses surveyed identified difficulty in filling positions and two thirds of them see this pattern continuing over the next 12 months.
