VERTO partners with major retailers in Hunter to deliver training

Certificate II Retail Wallsend VERTO TwT

A partnership between VERTO and the Hunter’s retail industry has equipped young people with new skills and exciting opportunities to start their careers.

As part of the Australian Government’s Transition to Work (TtW) program, VERTO’s Wallsend team has worked with the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) to facilitate a Certificate II Retail program for VERTO clients aged 15-24.

Eight participants completed the nine-week program, which involved seven weeks of theory plus two weeks of valuable work experience at various hosts including Coles, Woolworths and Best&Less.

“All eight participants successfully completed the qualification and gained retail-specific training at the same time,” VERTO Transition to Work Regional Manager Catherine Knight said.

“Since finishing the course, two participants have successfully found jobs: one in the hospitality industry and one in concreting.

“The remaining participants are now much more focused on building base skills to meet employer expectations, and the program has had a huge impact on their self-confidence and personal lives.

“We’re excited about our partnership with ARA and look forward to helping more young people in the Hunter with job-ready skills,” Ms Knight said.

VERTO CEO Ron Maxwell said the ARA program was a great example of how VERTO can help connect young people with industry specific training and jobs.

“At VERTO, we’re committed to working hand-in-glove with the retail industry, and many others, to create even more employment and training pathways for young Australians,” Mr Maxwell said.

“Many industries are crying out for able and enthusiastic staff, so what better time for employers to give young people a go.

“I’d encourage anyone looking for career advice or businesses looking for support or employees, to reach out to VERTO – we’re here to help.”
