Ten Western NSW Men’s Sheds gratefully accepted generous donations from not-for-profit training, employment and apprenticeship services provider, VERTO, in the last four weeks.
The donations to Men’s Sheds in Mudgee, Bathurst, Orange, Parkes, Forbes, Lithgow, Cowra, Blayney, Wellington and Dubbo included a variety of items, ranging from safety equipment (gloves, safety glasses, masks, earmuffs) to hammers, tape measures, hand saws, screwdrivers, drills, drill bits and gift cards to purchase building materials.
VERTO CEO Ron Maxwell said that the Men’s Shed movement is one of the most powerful tools in addressing health and wellbeing among mature-aged men, and VERTO was proud to support such an important cause.
“The Men’s Sheds’ mission aligns closely with VERTO’s goal to positively transform the lives of individuals and communities, so it’s fantastic to be able to support local sheds with these donations,” he said.
“It’s no secret that men often struggle with their feelings and emotions, which can lead to isolation, loneliness and mental health issues.
“Having an outlet that promotes good health and mateship like the Men’s Shed is important, especially in today’s landscape where the COVID-19 pandemic is severely impacting more and more older workers.”
Dubbo Men’s Shed secretary John Gibson welcomed the donations and said they would make a big difference.
“Men’s Sheds are not-for-profit organisations, so donations of this magnitude will have a big impact on our local sheds and members,” he said. “We can’t thank VERTO enough for these incredibly generous donations.”
