VERTO tenancy advocate awarded for industry excellence

Albury’s Rebecca Bryant has scooped the pool at the Tenants’ Union TAAS (Tenancy Advice and Advocacy Service) Conference Awards held in Katoomba this month.

Ms Bryant received the People’s Choice and Smooth Operator Awards for her outstanding work as a Tenancy Advocate for not-for-profit training and employment services provider, VERTO.

In this role, Ms Bryant helps tenants understand their rental rights and responsibilities, resolve issues and navigate tribunal requirements. In addition, Ms Bryant connects clients to important support services, such as VERTO’s in-house financial counsellor, who provides free support to those facing financial hardship.

Ms Bryant said she was honoured to be acknowledged by the Tenants’ Union TAAS.

“It was amazing to win these awards. The last few years have been extremely challenging for many of my clients,” Ms Bryant said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has been a disruptive time, and we are also seeing the homelessness crisis deepen in many regional areas, which makes our work even more vital for tenants who are at risk of losing their homes.

“Our days can be quite stressful and busy, so it is amazing to be able to take some time out and be acknowledged for my hard work,” she said.

Ms Bryant said she is very passionate about her role in the tenancy space and enjoys working with people to improve their rental outcomes.

“One of my core beliefs is that housing is a human right and that every person, despite their background, deserves somewhere to call home,” Ms Bryant said.

“There is something extremely satisfying about empowering clients to use their rights to ensure that they have safe, stable and affordable accommodation.

“Most owners pay a real estate agent who is experienced and trained in tenancy law to manage their property. We are just supporting clients with their rights and obligations to make it an even playing field,” she said.

VERTO’s CEO, Ron Maxwell, commended Ms Bryant for her valuable contribution to the Albury community.

“Rebecca is an outstanding tenancy advocate for VERTO and an incredible asset to the Albury community. Her passion shines through in everything she does, and the results she produces for her clients are truly life-changing,” Mr Maxwell said.

“Her colleagues know how hard she works for her clients, so it is great to see that commitment, enthusiasm and excellence rewarded with prestigious industry accolades.”
