VERTO welcomes federal government’s budget commitment to improving employment and training outcomes

VERTO Chief Executive, Ron Maxwell, today praised the Federal Government’s continued investment in employment services for people with disability, targeted support for those experiencing disadvantage and skills development for the clean energy sector.

“VERTO welcomes the Australian Government’s $227.6 million investment in a new, specialised disability employment program,” Mr Maxwell said.

“We look forward to seeing further details about the new program which will deliver improved services and employment outcomes for people living with disability.”

Mr Maxwell also praised the Australian Government’s continued investment in skilling the clean energy sector.

“As a national provider of the New Energy Apprenticeship Mentoring Program, we’re delighted to see a targeted boost in clean energy incentive payments, courses and facility upgrades. This will help to create a skilled clean energy workforce that can support this key growth sector.”

Improving employment outcomes for vulnerable people and disadvantaged communities was also highlighted in the budget through:

  • A $54 million investment in two new paid work placement programs which will pilot support for job seekers with barriers to work, connecting them with new opportunities in businesses and social enterprises.
  • A $100 million Outcomes Fund from 2024-25 to fund projects supporting communities experiencing entrenched disadvantage. The fund will focus on improving outcomes for children and families, addressing homelessness and helping those experiencing barriers to employment.
  • A $134.2 million investment for skills and employment support in key regions. This includes developing Regional Workforce Transition Plans, negotiated with governments, communities, employers and unions.
  • A five year, $2.4 billion investment in achieving better outcomes for First Nations people in priority areas of jobs, health, education, justice and other essential services and infrastructure.
