VERTO’s Self-Employment Assistance program helps Shelan Koudedah tell story of ISIS survivor

Shelan Koudedah has launched her book The Woman Who Escaped ISIS Hell using assistance from not-for-profit employment and training services provider VERTO’s Self-Employment Assistance (SEA) program.

The book, officially unveiled in late November in Wagga Wagga, narrates the gripping story of Hayam Mihi, a survivor of ISIS captivity in Iraq.

Utilising the Australian Government’s Self-Employment Assistance program, Shelan was assisted in building a website to promote the book, receiving advice and mentorship on online sales, as well as business advice and health checks.

“The Self-Employment Assistance program was instrumental in helping me create a website to promote and sell my new book and gain confidence with navigating domestic and international online sales,” author Shelan Koudedah said.

“I’m incredibly proud to release this book as a testament to the strength of the human spirit, and I am grateful for the assistance I have received from VERTO.

“I felt supported through every step of the process, feeling confident that I could reach out anytime and receive quality assistance, from website design to online sales set up. I knew they had my back.

“I look forward to continuing to work with VERTO to publish an eBook version through Amazon.”

The Woman Who Escaped ISIS Hell vividly recounts the harrowing experiences of Hayam Mihi, who faced abduction, imprisonment, and brutality at the hands of ISIS in 2014. The book paints a poignant picture of Hayam’s remarkable escape and reunion with her husband and family, showcasing resilience and enduring human strength.

“We are incredibly proud to have played a small part in the telling of this courageous and inspiring story,” VERTO CEO Ron Maxwell said.

“The Self-Employment Assistance program is dedicated to empower individuals of all backgrounds, ventures and ambitions with the tools to achieve their goals. What Shelan has achieved here is very special and something we won’t forget for a long time.”
