Vivability and VERTO: inclusion is important every day of the year

Vivability and VERTO are today celebrating the contributions and achievements of the 4.4 million Australians living with disability to mark International Day of People with Disability (3 December).

The Central West businesses have a combined 50+ years’ experience working in disability services and see International Day of People with Disability as an opportunity to raise awareness of true inclusion.

‘It’s really important to understand inclusion is more than just removing barriers to people's access, which, mind you, still needs significant improvement,” Vivability’s Senior Manager, Aishling Gilroy, said.

“We want to see people with disabilities employed in all workplaces, at award wages.

“The world will be truly inclusive of people with disability when a person is no longer looked at differently because they have a disability.

“On this day, and every other day, we should treat people with disability with the same dignity, respect, and professionalism that we would treat anyone else,” Ms Gilroy said.

VERTO Chief Executive Officer, Ron Maxwell, said he wanted to join with Vivability to inspire positive change.

“It is a privilege to provide Disability Employment Services to our clients in NSW and see the positive impact employment can have on their lives,” he said.

“Since 2011, VERTO has helped more than 1180 people with disability to reach their employment or education goals.”

“As we saw at the Paralympics this year, people with disability can achieve almost anything they put their minds to, and our focus should be on the ability and capability of each and every person,” Mr Maxwell said.
